Anatomy of a Sitar

As a new student of sitar, this diagram isn't entirely helpful but there are a few things worth mentioning.

The base of the sitar is called tumba.

The set of strings on the bottom are called sympathetic strings.

There are strings on top (to the left of this diagram) called chikari. Those strings are tuned one octave up from the 2nd string.
